Supporting a Number of Worthy Programs

The Mount Dora Heroes Foundation is tasked with raising funds for and providing material support for three principle causes.  For budgeting purposes, we ask that you donate to a specific fund so that we can ensure your contributions are directed accordingly.  We are greatly appreciative of any support you can provide.  If you are interested in hosting a fundraiser for a specific cause, be sure to contact us as we are always interested in partnering with those in our community.


K-9 Program Fund

The Mount Dora Heroes Foundation K-9 Program Fund supports two goals: (1) assist with the placement and support of retired police dogs and (2) grow and advance the Mount Dora Police Department’s K-9 unit.  Between the ages of seven and nine, most police dogs are placed into retirement.  During its years of service, a police dog becomes a vital member of any police force and community.  Upon retirement, the Mount Dora Heroes Foundation seeks to honor any K-9 unit dog with the respect and honor it deserves.

Typically, the dog itself is placed with its long time handler.  The K-9 Program Fund specifically helps reduce the burden on the dog’s caretakers by assisting in covering medical costs as the dog ages.

Furthermore, the fund is used to reinforce the Mount Dora Police Department’s K-9 unit by helping defray the costs of purchasing and training new service dogs.





Memorial Fund

The Mount Dora Heroes Foundation Memorial Fund seeks to provide support and honor those who serve our communities.  One of the principle goals of this fund is to raise donations for the continued construction of the Mount Dora Police & Fire Memorial Plaza.  Located at the Police & Fire Headquarters, the Memorial Plaza honors fallen police officers and firefighters who have served our communities so admirably.

Phase 1 of the Memorial Plaza was completed and dedicated on September 11, 2008.  We are currently asking for donations so as to complete Phase 2.  Construction will begin as soon as the necessary funds are raised.

The Memorial Fund additionally provides material support for injured or fallen officers and their families in times of crisis.  The Mount Dora Heroes Foundation is proud to offer support to local Central Florida officers and their families during their time of need.

The Mount Dora Heroes Foundations also makes an annual contribution to the National Organization of Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.PS. – http://www.nationalcops.org/) using this fund.





Community Improvement Fund

The Community Improvement Fund supports such things as auxiliary police equipment.

The MDHF Community Improvement Fund is tasked with supporting a number of initiatives that help strengthen the bonds between the Mount Dora community and its local police department.  These initiatives include officer safety projects and programs as well as the promotion of crime prevention programs.

This fund additionally helps alleviate the cost for the Mount Dora Police Department to keep up with rapidly changing technology and non-budgeted items.  In the past, the Mount Dora Heroes Foundation has purchased body cameras, new equipment, and vests so as to better support our local officers.
