Canine Mayor Competition Supports K-9 Fund
The citizens of Mount Dora have spoken, and their first Canine Mayor is a four-year-old Chihuahua named Mickie. Mickie will serve a one-year term and receive a special collar, a reserved parking spot at the Mount Dora Dog Park, and a gift card.
The Canine Mayor of Mount Dora Contest was a fundraising event in support of our K-9 Fund, which is used to support retired K-9 unit dogs as well as support the purchase and training of new police dogs. The Mount Dora Heroes Foundation is proud to announce that the first iteration of the competition raised more than $1,800 for such a great cause.
All dogs with a Mount Dora address were encouraged to enter and votes were made with an accompanying $10 donation. We would like to thank all dogs and their owners for entering and anyone who voted.
The new Canine Mayor will serve as a goodwill ambassador and will hopefully be visible out and about within the community.
An eight-month-old Wirehaird Pointing Griffon named Jubal came in second and will be named vice-Mayor. Both Mickie and Jubal will be sworn into office at the January 6 Mount Dora City Council meeting.
